The rising dragon is a traditional motif symbolizing the fulfillment of great hopes and aspirations for a child’s future.
In this work, I portrayed the dragon using mokkotsuhō—a traditional Japanese painting technique that does not rely on outlines—giving the creature a soft yet powerful presence.
In the background, I painted the Five-Story Pagoda of Kōfuku-ji Temple in Nara, one of my favorite places.
The pagoda, as a symbol of Japan, stands here alongside the dragon, which I depict as a guardian deity entrusted with protecting peace and the lives of people—so that even amid global change, what is sacred and essential may remain peacefully preserved.
